Wet!

Vita stands beside me at the kitchen counter as I make tea.  A small puddle from her beard forms on the tiles at our feet.  She has been drinking and (as usual) half her water bowl finishes on the floor and not in her mouth. I'm still in my dressing gown, but I'm not going out anywhere soon, so no rush to get dressed.

Rain falling from the wisteria makes a metallic tinkling noise as it drips on the long ladder lying propped against the wall - too big and heavy to lift back into the rafters of the porch behind the house where it should reside.

The water butts are full to overflowing.  The swimming pool cover is awash.  Yet another soggy night and day.

We're into July and summer continues to elude us.  We scan the weather forecasts to check days when we might get some sun, so we can snatch the opportunity to mow the lawns and Karcher the cottage terrace.

We have guests from Holland arriving in two weeks.  We just hope the sun comes out for them. Though maybe for the Dutch this is good weather?

  1. Dog drinking is very wasteful and Ted can get water a good 2m from his kitchen bowl. We have been rather dry this year and yet today there have been warnings of thunderstorms. Lucky that your Dutch visitors can still travel. Lesley

    1. Hello Lesley, hope all well with you and Ted. Sorry for the slow reply. As I've said to Fly below, I've been making curtains for the cottage and (as always) left everything to the last minute! Yes, people within Europe are managing to travel. They've confirmed they've been vaccinated, which is good.

  2. Fingers crossed for better weather for your guests...
As to dogs and drinking, it is amazing how far water can travel from their drinking area, borne on their beards. Even the smooth haired ones seem to be able to distribute it far and wide.
We are in the little summer which breaks up the rainy season, so hot and dry all day, but for the first time since we moved here, jolly cold in the early hours of the morning so I have broken out Leo's old djellaba, bought in Tunisia years ago, for the 2.00 am calls for tea and tablets, and very cosy it is too.

  3. I am well served for the earlier comment...that same night the edge of a hurrican hit us....high winds, a diluvian downpour...you name it!

    1. Hello Fly, sorry, I've been slow to reply - busy making curtains for the cottage. Cold (or at least cool) in the night after a hot day sounds lovely! Hope all well after the hurricane.
