Spring Sounds

The wooh-wooh, wooh-wooh of a hoopoe, somewhere up behind the house.

The trills from the trees alongside the stream in the valley, as the nightingales sing their hearts out.

Bertie's outraged barking at yet another loud "thud" from the bird scarer in the adjacent field. Monsieur F. has planted sunflower seeds and is trying (without much success) to keep the pigeons off.

The thrum of the sit-on lawnmower as Tod weaves it round the flower beds in our garden, ducking to avoid stray rambling rose stems and the lower branches of the cherry tree behind the pool house.

He is out there for the first time in a month after his cataract operation.  He is doing well.

    1. Hello Fly - hope all well with you. We are enjoying glorious spring days - this is just the best time of year.

  2. I too miss our garden hoopoes - some being two 'wooh's, some three and very occasionally four. We bought a noisy toy hoopoe (at Baie de Somme, I think it was RSPB) for an adult friend and it still 'answers' his phone calls.
I'm also glad the cataract op has gone well - just in time for the grass cutting season. Lesley

    1. Hello Lesley - sorry, I've been slow to reply. Tod is having fun with a new sit-on tractor. It makes short work of our field. We're aiming to reduce the amount of grass cutting and leaving more of the field wild but he's enjoying himself so much I think I may have to lend him to our neighbours to cut their lawns!
