These Mellow Days

This time last year we had already fled down to the cottage in search of warmth and comfort.

This year, we are still in our draughty old house, relishing the mild November days, leaving the kitchen door on to the veranda open so that the dogs can wander in and out at will. We sit outside, tea mugs in hand,  faces turned to the sun. Too hot as I dig over a new bed where more roses will go, I strip off my sweater.  The tomatoes on the vines behind the pool house continue to ripen and each morning there is a fresh flood of bright blue morning glory on the pergola at the back of the cottage.

These mellow November days are a gentle antidote to the fear and uncertainty around the world economic situation.  Long may they continue.

  1. Enjoy it while it lasts, Sue. It could change very quickly. Even here on the north coast of Scotland it's unusually mild and we still have a few roses and hollyhocks in flower.

  3. That's amazing. And it was 60 degree F here today, which I think is unusual. It feels unusual anyway.
We did not have a frost until sometime late in October. I've been here for 35 years and we used to expect a frost by the end of August.

  4. End of August!!!!! Heavens Sharyn, that's much too early. Your 60 degrees sounds better. Rain for us tomorrow - hence the digging of the rose bed. :)

  5. I'm in northern New Hampshire. We are definitely feeling the effects of global warming. However we also had a freak snow storm in October that dumped 16 inches on the southern part of the state. It's all melted now of course.

  6. It's wonderful, isn't it? Here in Creuse we're still in teeshirts during the day, although we have to light the fire in the evening now. As you say, long may it last ... but I have a horrible feeling we're going to pay for being spoilt like this :-(

  7. Hello Steph, I must say I'm looking forward to some really cold weather to kill off the bugs! But not just yet. :)
